Y'know what we need to do?

We have two already, and I dunno about anybody else, but I think Mith would be an awesome Al-Cid. (Who could take pictures with Ashe!)

Home on a night off with no costumes ongoing makes me antsy, so...

Obviously I need to buy supplies for stuff soon so I have things to do on nights off other than write about scruffy homeless Vulcans (sorry dear! I do that at work every other night!), and ideally, that should be what we're going to need for skits.

First skit we'll need costumes for is 1940 at Katsu. (Which is almost definitely a go now - I have enough vacation/personal time left to use up before late Feb. that I could probably hit Katsu AND Ohayocon, and one of the two people with seniority over me is asking for the week AFTER Katsu off, so only one person to potentially bump my request. We will make financial arrangements soon, J!)

If I've got this correct, Thea as America has nothing to worry about, because she'll be borrowing the costume and wearing her own combat boots.

Which leaves me to just make Japan. Have already established the white military uniform is the way to go. However, input and links to the most preferable references would be helpful. For instance, what the heck fabric should that be? I'm assuming something in the suiting or bottomweight department, twill or gabardine or whatnot, but any specific suggestions? Also, most of the images I'm finding online seem to be fan art... and the ones that are not vary betwen being chibis or screencaps, which don't always agree with each other. If there is a particular incarnation that is generally considered "most" accurate or that goes with other costumes that will be worn, hopefully with good references, I'd love to know which it is. ;)

And then, ACen is going to be Springtime for Draklor if all goes well. For the record, ACen has revamped their masq rules again this year, and although I don't think we'll have a problem with anything except maybe we'll have to drop the Inglourious Basterds joke at the end - no longer PG-13, but PG is the rule, they're funny about firearms, and time limit is still 2:30 - feel free to have a look. (Also, we think we're going to be staying at the Embassy Suites this year, and should get on reserving that in the morning.)

Will note that one rule is that no costumes can have been worn in a previous ACen masq. Gabranth was not completed when Thea wore it before, we've made some changes to it since, and I'm thinking we're going to do some fixing up on it anyway... But just checking - are we sure the cast is final for that? I know there was an earlier revision involving Ashe and Basch rather than Ashe and Penelo, and if I have to make Basch (because we really can't borrow Mith's - it won!), it would be a good thing to know in advance. ;)

Which leaves Venat for me to make, and no worries there because I've been pondering the logistics for something like two years now and may start tonight because hello craft foam and posterboard~ and I love constructing insane things that light up and smoke, and just ASK about the solo project I've been thinking about lately.

So, in summary: References/input for Japan? Am I really not making any new masq costumes for Thea until possibly next Otakon?

(Of course, I'm making Geddoe for her, and we are TOTALLY taking Geddoe and Queen into craftsmanship somewhere if it's not a disaster, so I'm hardly leaving her in the lurch. ;))

More Hotel Stuff

The Days Inn may not work this time, guys, neither the Otakon site nor the housing line nor the actual Days Inn site will cough up ANYTHING for Saturday night at con rate or otherwise. Andrea made a Thu-Sat reservation just in case something can be done with it after all, but for now I checked the Sheraton site again and managed to find cheap doubles, so we also have two rooms with two double beds at $99.95/night plus taxes (in addition to the single king we already had). It's not that far away (and is probably as close to the Arena as the Days is, if the Masq is there again) and it's actually cheaper than the Days, so we won't be doing too badly if that's the best reservation we can get.

Days Inn for Otakon

What do you know, when I looked in my email from last August I had confirmations for everything after all.

We got two rooms on the website right after the dates were announced and one through the Otakon hotel line when it opened four days later. As we got all the reservations and we're just two to a room on account of Andrea being the world's lightest sleeper, the con rate room is ours; the other two are still only $199/night before tax because the Days is made of awesome. We've got Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night.

It shouldn't be difficult to add other names to the two-room reservation (whoever is likely to get there first, mostly). As far as payment goes, what I'd prefer is if we can get the two-room reservation switched to somebody else's plastic and that person coordinate payment arrangements for everything however they like; otherwise, I'd either have to ask for payment in advance or borrow from Andrea until I get everyone's share, because I get paid ON that Friday and cannot make a deposit of cash/checks that other people give me in Maryland, so if I'm handling more than just our room then I need money in my bank account before we take off.

Chrono trigger skit punchline:

It occurred to me after today's f!s.

The trial is nearly over. The chancellor asks if Crono has anything he wants to say.

I think you'll know which line it is. He repeats it.

ACen scheduling things...

mood: worrywart perfectionist :P

So one week from today, we'll be preparing to go onstage! Woo! As soon as I get a couple redone lines, I should be able to finish the mixing very quickly, thanks to a new program I'm trying. Mmm, more than two tracks at a time... Also, I took some pics of the various props and wigs I did for Apollo and Kristoph, which are done. Now have everything except the bottle (akatonbo hasn't finished the wine that's in it, and uh, I'm not going to rush her on drinking XD) and two large boxes for the defense/prosecution benches.

A couple things I've been thinking over, in regards to timing and the con/photoshoot schedule...

Thursday: We need to get some rehearsal time in. What time is everyone intending to get into town? If we can at least block out the choreography Thursday, I think we can be ready for Friday. I mean, the song is such an earworm that I think we all know it by now, so memorizing lines won't be a problem...

Friday: Clearly the photoshoots were not arranged around akatonbo and my costume schedule - we were going to wear Edea and Cid on Friday, and the Ace Attorney stuff on Saturday. The Ace Attorney photoshoot is Friday night, and the FF photoshoot is Saturday afternoon. However! We did notice that the AA photoshoot is the same time as the Hetalia photoshoot, which I know you guys will be doing. So we were thinking we'd get into our AA costumes shortly before 6 for that photoshoot, while you guys are off doing Hetalia, and then perhaps after our respective photoshoots, we could do skit review? Friday night skit review is from 6-9, so if we signed up for something like 8, that would give you guys plenty of time to get into appropriate costumes (if it's even necessary to be in appropriate costumes for skit review). Depending on how skit review goes, that might be all the practice we need.

Also, check-in on Friday is noon-4pm, so as long as we can get together at some point during that time, it should be good. (I'm thinking of entering Edea in hall, so I definitely won't be wearing Phoenix until almost time for the AA shoot.)

Saturday: If we do the above, we'll have our masq stuff all taken care of already, woohoo! We can relax until it's time to report to the green room. akatonbo and I may start out the day in Cid and Edea and switch after the FF shoot, depending on how tired I am of wearing a tight dress that makes it hard to walk and a headdress that could fall off if I move too quickly. On the other hand, Phoenix is comfy. Even with the spirit gum all over my face. I'm wearing it now, in fact - just did a couple makeup tests.

So yeah, relaxation and/or practicing until green room time. And then we will be kicking butt in the masquerade.

Sunday: CHILLING. akatonbo is intending to skip out on Sunday and drive up to a ball game, while I hang out at the con for a little longer, most likely as Kenshin. Is anyone still intending to detour up to Kalamazoo and work a little on the opera? If so, depending on how late she gets back, and how much car space is available, we might take off before she gets back. Thoughts? If you are going up, want to leave before she gets back, and have no room for me, that's cool - we can always give you guys directions and let you know of interesting places to go if you arrive before us, and offer help remotely thanks to the wonders of cell phones. ;)

Man, I can't wait to see you guys...

The standard rate for the Days Inn, at which I reserved 2 rooms on Sunday afternoon, is $199/night. The actual con rate this time around is a boggling $120/night. I was able to reserve ONE room, which they swore to me was the very last one, at the con rate; they were unable to convert existing reservations.

I'm leaving the existing 2-room reservation at the normal rate alone for the moment since there's plenty of time before I'd need to cancel any part of it, but it's up to you guys whether you'd rather stick with the $199/night at the Days or make a reservation someplace else (there were still cheaper rooms available elsewhere through the Otakon reservation site when we checked -- the Days wasn't listed anymore after I made my reservation by phone). Personally, with the rate being divided between more people, I'd probably pick the Days. Heck, I might pick the Days anyway, it was amazingly awesome to be so close to the convention center this year. Also there's always keeping a hawk eye on the site to watch for rooms at the Days opening up somehow. I should be able to change my existing reservation to 1 room anytime, though; I can't imagine that should be a problem.

(Oh, and officially those are all 2-person rates, since when I made the 2-room reservation it wouldn't let me say '2 people in 1 room and 4 in the other' even if I'd wanted to and then the actual con rate reservation people only had the one room.)
